HALLOWEEN is a festival that takes place on the night of October 31 to November 1. This day is celebrated primarily in Ireland, Canada, Australia, Britain and the United States. The best known tradition is that children will dress up in scary or funny costumes (ghosts, witches, monsters, vampires for example) and go ring at the door asking adults, often themselves disguised, for candy,
fruit or money with the formula: Trick or treat! ("Farce or bonbon!") or simply "Happy Halloween!". Other activities include masked balls, watching horror movies, visiting "haunted" houses, etc.
Halloween is an Anglo-Saxon Folk Festival, to which some lend an originally Celtic, the calendar concomitance of November 1, period of the ancient Celtic religious festival of Samain. This tradition was carried on to North America in the 19th century by the Irish, Scottish and other immigrants.
