THANKSGIVING


Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thurday of November in the USA and the second Monday of October in Canada. Thanksgiving was declared an official holiday in 1863. The story of Thanksgiving begins in 1920 . The king didn't want Puritans to pratice their religion .The puritains left England and went to America to start a new colony. The first winter was difficult, the Indians helped the Puritans and to thank them, they invited them to a big meal. For Thanksgiving ,the Americans eat some roast turkey, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, pumpkim pie ... Some activities are watching football on TV and doing parades.

BONFiRE NiGHT
On 5th November, people celebrate Bonfire Night, in England.
We can call it Guy fawkes' day, or Gunpowder Plot.
Guy Fawkes tried to kill King James. He put gunpowder under the Parliament. He was discovered and arrested. He was executed.
On Bonfire Night, people do fireworks and bonfires, they eat parkin cake, potatoes, sausages, toffee apples....
The day before Bonfire Night, children do models of Guy Fawkes to burn on the Bonfire. It is called « Penny for the Guy».
